Goal Oriented Counseling

Goal-Oriented Counseling offers counseling services to individuals and couples. Reputed to be one of the best hypnotherapists and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) practitioners in the Maryland area, Jill works collaboratively with clients to address three areas of concern. One is emotional concerns such as phobias, anxieties, depression, managing grief, and relieving stress. Another area is interpersonal concerns such as building strong relationships, intimacy and establishing effective communication skills. The third area focuses on health issues such as smoking, weight control and pain management.

Also known as Solution or Outcome-Focused counseling, Goal-Oriented Counseling is centered on establishing realistic, practical and appropriate outcomes which have relevance to your complaints or concerns.  It does not depend on a historical perspective for solutions, because my theoretical perspective is that “history” is only valuable as a context for behavior and beliefs— as opposed to causality.  Although it may be extremely interesting, insight as to what generated the problems is unnecessary in order to formulate a range of possible solutions.  One is still left with the burning question of, “What do I do from here? What can I do now to change how I feel inside, how I think about the situation, and how I can act differently and more successfully?" I believe that this is the crux of goal-oriented counseling.

The answer depends on the objectives you want to establish. As your counselor, I will work cooperatively with you to help establish and achieve your goals and outcomes.  Once specific goals and objectives are established and agreed to, Jill will help you to access personal internal resources which have been used successfully in other contexts and with different issues.  These resources can then be used to counter those negative behavior patterns that have become unsatisfactory.  Sometimes, new resources to adequately solve the problem may need to be created. This may involve transforming perspectives, challenging limiting belief systems, or generating new attitudes, behaviors and coping strategies.

With specialized training and experience in Clinical Hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Jill will help you gain access to your personal strengths and internal resources to triumph over emotional, attitudinal, and behavioral challenges.
Other specific therapeutic tools used include, but are not limited to: Cognitive and Behavioral therapy, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt Therapy, Psychodrama, and a systems approach to working with couples and families.
